Shop Steward Duties:

  1. Be a Leader
    1. Spark the Enthusiasm of Fellow Employees;
    2. Enlist Cooperation; and
    3. Help Build a More Active Union.
  2. Be a Representative
    1. Speak to management on behalf of your co-workers;
    2. Watch for violation of the agreement or established working conditions; and
    3. Convey concerns of your members to local leadership.
  3. Be an Organizer
    1. Build the Union Team – Sign up new members; and
    2. Activate those who are members.
  4. Be a Communicator
    1. Keep members informed;
    2. Explain union goals; and
    3. Convey union policies and programs to works’ needs and concerns to the union leadership.
